DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY - The US Military ethos.
No Vet Left Behind Inc. carries that ethos by continuing to
honor our veterans
for their
services to our country.
The US Military make soldiers combat ready.
We are dedicated to making veterans society ready.
Our mission is to serve homeless and newly returning Soldiers.
Assisting veterans in regaining
their dignity and independence
after the sacrifice they have given for us is the core of our
mission. The proud people we serve are former members of the
military who may be struggling
with
substance abuse and Post
Traumatic Stress Syndrome. We offer food, clothing and
household
items through our Stars and Stripes Thrift Store and
Service Center where we take
donation of
goods to sell to the
public or give for free to veterans. No Vet Left Behind Inc.
assists veterans
in getting the VA benefits they deserve, offer
rides to medical appointments
and organize
regular Stand Downs.
As we begin 2012, NVLB begins its fourth year of operations, I
would like to share with you some
of
our successes. We have found that there is a great need for our
organization in Ansonia, as
we have opened a Thrift Shoppe in Ansonia on 14 Jewett
St.
Now let me give you examples of how we did that in 2009:
-
Opened Stars and Stripes Thrift Shoppe in
Derby (which helps fund NVLB)
-
Held our first mini Stand Down in
Ansonia, serving over 200 veterans
-
Held our 1st Annual Veterans
Benefit Ball in July
-
Procured and furnished housing for eight
veterans
-
Enrolled three veterans in the VA
drug/alcohol rehab center
-
Purchased/leased three houses that will
be home to 27 men and 10 women

Even with these major accomplishments,
what was most noticeable was the shear amount of
veterans that
walk into the store on a daily basis. On an average day, 8-10
veterans in needing
some kind of assistance. This is compared
to 2-3 when we first started. This is a remarkable
increase in
a short amount of time. We have fed more than 400 families from
our food pantry
which today we continue to do from donations
from the public. We have insured that families
stay together
by acting as the go between for other family organizations. But
today we are ready
to
go to the next step once we move to
Ansonia we are ready to build our computer lab for
veterans
to
be able to search for employment and receive classes on resume
writing and how to
conduct
a proper interview. President: Mary
Porter.
No Vet Left Behind is a non-profit organization dedicated to
helping veterans make the often
difficult transition between
military and civilian life. Through its founders, Mary & George Porter,
No Vet Left Behind provides emergency shelter
services, transitional housing, education and job
training
resources, and assistance with obtaining medical and other
benefits veterans may be
entitled to. Our goal is for every
veteran to achieve self-sufficiency, sobriety, and independence.
